Abstract

The rise of free massive open courses has revolutionized teaching over the last two years, to the point where it is now considered the most important educational landmark of 2012. Various educational structures are emerging under the banner of Massive Open Online Courses (or MOOCs), some of which under the auspices of prestigious universities and others of private companies, and both the former and the latter with a wide range of interests and not just an educational altruism in mind. In this book, we analyze the prevailing pedagogical model on the leading platforms offering MOOCs and the main controversies, difficulties and challenges these kinds of courses face.
