Doctor by the Universidad de Oviedo with the thesis La estructura de la unidad de Malpica-Tui ( Cordillera Varisca en Iberia) 2000. Supervised by Dr. Alberto Marcos Vallaure.

My main research interest resides in the study of the microstructure and physical properties of deformed rocks, whether natural or experimental. Although I started with ductile deformation processes, I have been more involved with time in the study of cataclastic deformation and its relation to seismicity. I have maintained throughout my career a wider interest in the tectonic evolution of orogenic belts, particularly the Variscan orogen and the Cantabrian mountains. In both mountain belts, I remain very much interested in how deep lithospheric processes affect the surface, particularly the development of topography, and also in the search for structures indicative of seismic movement along faults.
