Resumen

The mechanoreceptors are the places where theprocess of transformation of the mechanical im-pulses into electric signal takes place. Consistentlysome types of mechanoreceptors, both in verte-brates and not vertebrates, express potentialmechanoproteins directly involved in the mecha-notransduction. Among putative mechanoproteinsare some ion channels belonging to TRP and Deg/ENa+C families. In this research we have investi-gated using double immunofluorescence the ex-pression of the mechanoproteins TRPC6 (transientreceptor potential canonical 6) and TRPV4(transient receptor potential vaniloid 4) in Meissnercorpuscles of human and Macaca fasciculata gla-brous digital skin. Both TRPC6 and TRPV4 arerelated to the mechanorecepcion, and co-expression of both has been associated to me-chanical algesia. The immunoreactivity for TRPC6and TRPV4 was co-localized with axonal markers, and never with specific markers for lamellar cells,in the axons of Meissner corpuscles, in both spe-cies. In addition, TRPV4 has also axonal localiza-tion, and co-localized with TRPC6. These resultsdemonstrate the presence and co-expression oftwo putative mechanoproteins in Meissner corpus-cles and probably this fact is at the basis of poly-modal role of Meissner corpuscles
