Abstract

Focused on the study of Italian “Sicilianness”, this paper presents a teaching proposal, level A2 according to the CEFR, aimed at university undergraduates of Italian as a Foreing Language (ITALS). Methodologically based on the use of the novel Volevo i pantaloni, by Lara Cardella, as a central pedagogical-literary resource, this case study stems from the application of intercultural didactics in the language class and is backed up by the main bibliographic sources pivotal to the theories and techniques of the teaching of Italian. Pedagogical contents are offered whose main objective is to promote gender equality and renew conventional educational practices. In this paper the following conclusions are drawn: the student body manages to critically analyze the cultural identity of Italy and Sicily while enriching their cultural –and linguistic– level in Italian; the use of Cardella’s text shows the need to reinterpret traditional didactic resources.
