Abstract

The Jovellanos center updates seafarer human resource management HRM BROUGHT UP TO DATE Summary: Human Resources Management (HRM) has always been a part of seafarer professional development. Like many other high risk and responsibility professions, it was not until relatively recently that terms such as "situational awareness" or " workload” were applied to on board duties or indeed to the "ship–shore” equipment involved in the maritime business. The Spanish Administration has instructed nautical training schools to adapt their curricula to the provisions of the Manila amendments. Thus, new generations of pilots and engineers will have to acquire the relevant skills in order to receive their professional licences. At the "Jovellanos" Integrated Maritime Safety Centre, part of the Spanish Maritime Safety Agency, the training offered to active seafarers covers the new requirements and meets demanding international regulations.
