Religiosity, abortion stigma and the mediating effect of gender attitudesA study in the Chilean population

Resumen

El Estigma del Aborto (EA) es un atributo negativo adscrito a mujeres que interrumpen un embarazo que las marca como inferiores a los ideales de la femineidad. Los grupos religiosos, sustentados en códigos normativos tradicionales sobre el género, son identificados en la literatura como la fuente más importante de EA. Con el propósito de analizar la influencia de la religiosidad sobre el EA mediada por actitudes estereotipadas hacia el género, se llevó a cabo el presente estudio cuantitativo causal multiva-riado. Mediante un Modelo de Ecuaciones Estructurales, se determinó en una muestra comunitaria de 360 chilenos que la religiosidad influye directamente sobre el EA e indirectamente a través de las actitudes estereotipadas. Este modelo obtuvo adecuados índices de ajuste, y explicó el 69.2% de la varianza. Se somete a prueba un segundo Modelo de Ecuaciones Estructurales con control de vaiables, y se discuten las implicancias de este hallazgo para la sociedad chilena, donde la religión ocupa importantes instancias de poder y de toma de decisiones. Se propone la educación en equidad de género como estrategia para reducir el EA.
