Cristina Riaño Alonso is Lecturer in the Department of Philology at the University of Cantabria. After obtaining a BA in English Studies (2015) and a Master’s Degree in Teacher Training in Secondary and Upper Secondary Education and Vocational Training (2016), she enrolled in the PhD Program in Gender and Diversity of the University of Oviedo (Excellence Mention MEE2011-0154). In 2018, she was awarded a prestigious four-year “Severo Ochoa” predoctoral fellowship for research and teaching training, funded by the Principality of Asturias. This fellowship allowed her to become part of the Department of English, French and German Philology of the University of Oviedo, as well as of the research group Intersections: Contemporary Literatures, Cultures, and Theories, of which she remains an active member. In February 2023 she completed her PhD with a thesis titled “Narratives of Cosmopolitanism and Strange(r)ness in the Work of Contemporary African Scottish Writers / Narraciones de cosmopolitismo y extrañeza en la obra de escritores y escritoras afroescocesas contemporáneas.” Her field of specialisation is contemporary Scottish literature, analysed within the framework of cultural, postcolonial, decolonial and gender studies. As part of her research work, she has undertaken two research visits at the University of Edinburgh.
