Doctor by the Universidad de Salamanca with the thesis El uso público de la razón. Un estudio sobre la teoría habermasiana de la esfera pública 2002. Supervised by Dr. Cirilo Flórez Miguel.

He holds a degree and then a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Salamanca. There he was a doctoral researcher and a lecturer (in the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Sociology) before joining the University of Oviedo (UO) in 2006, where he has been a tenured professor since 2011. He enjoyed a postdoctoral stay at Northwestern University (2003-2005). He then had short research stays at Stony Brook University (2012), Universität Hamburg (2018) and University College Cork (2016, 2017, 2019), and teaching stays at Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia (2016), Sapienza - Università di Roma (2017) Universidad de Guadalajara (2016) and Université Catholique de l'Afrique Centrale (2021). He teaches Political Philosophy courses in the Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and courses on Ethics applied to emergency and disaster situations in the Master's Degree in Analysis and Management of Emergencies and Disasters and in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Public Health in Disasters, both at the UO. He has supervised five doctoral theses (4 received cum laude and 2 received International Mention) and is currently supervising 10 theses at the UO. He was tutor of 4 doctoral and postdoc students with competitive grants. She has four six-year research periods. He currently directs the research project "Ethical duties in disaster contexts (DESASTRE)", funded by the BBVA Foundation Grants for Scientific Research Projects, and is a member of the "Thematic Network: Espacyos: Public Health Ethics (RED2022-134551-T)", funded by the MICIN, and of the "Thematic Network: Ibero-American Laboratory of Ethics and Public Health (LIBERESP)", funded by the Ibero-American Programme of Science and Technology for Development - CYTED. He also participates in the research team of the project "Biological Reproduction, Social Reproduction and Public Sphere (PID2020-115079RB-I, AEI/FEDER, EU)". He was previously a member of 12 other research projects funded in competitive calls, including the COST ACTION "Reappraising Intellectual Debates on Civic Rights and Democracy in Europe (RECAST)", funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union (2017-2021). He is since July 2023 the Principal Investigator of the UO Research Group "Bioethics and Applied Ethics". He is currently vice-president of the Asturian Society of Philosophy; previously he was its president (2015-2019). He has been a member of the Research Ethics Committee of the UO since 2014 and was a member of the Ethics Committee on Social Intervention of the Principality of Asturias (2018-2021). He is a member of the Doctoral Commission of the UO since 2021 and also of the Academic Commission of the Doctoral Programme in Humanistic Research, being representative / tutor of the research line "Science and Culture: philosophical foundations of science and practical and humanistic implications", since 2020. He is also a member of: Spanish Association of Ethics and Political Philosophy (AEEFP) since 2007; Spanish Association of Political Science and Administration (AECPA) since 2013; Permanent Group of Political Theory of AECPA since 2015; Political Theory Group of the Latin American Association of Political Science (ALACIP) since 2021; European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) since 2013; Standing Group on Political Concepts, in the framework of ECPR, since 2014; and Ibero-American Network of Research and Training in Postgraduate Education (RIIFPE) since 2020.
