Doctor by the Universidad de Oviedo with the thesis Propiedades termodinámicas de interés en procesos de separación mediante técnicas cromatográficas 1987. Supervised by Dr. José Coca Prados.

A. Vega is Full Professor in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of University the University of Oviedo since 2011. He has got a PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1987 at the University of Oviedo, and he became Assistant Professor (1982-1988) and then Associate Professor (1988-2011). In 1989 he was Visiting Researcher at the "Chemical Process Modeling and Control Research Center" of Lehigh University in Pennsylvania (USA) where he worked with Prof. Georgakis in the optimization and control of batch and semi-batch reactors using trend models. His research tasks have been focused on the determination of important physical-chemical properties in separation processes, especially diffusivities of gases in liquids, and activity coefficients by gas and liquid chromatography. Also, various works are carried out in the area of separation processes, mainly by extractive distillation and chromatography. Currently, his areas of interest focus mainly on the application of Catalytic Processes, Chemical Reactors and Simulation and Automatic Control to the solution of problems of interest in chemical and environmental processes. These research works are carried out in collaboration with national companies (Aceralia, Cogersa, AGR, Du Pont Ibérica, QF Bayer) and foreign companies (Haldor-Topsoe, ATOFINA, IQA), and financed in European, national and regional calls, as well as by the companies themselves.
