Doctor por la Universidad de Oviedo con la tesis Diseño y evaluación de una metodología de análisis de comportamiento de sistemas de tiempo real, implementados sobre arquitecturas paralelas de memoria distribuida 1998. Dirigida por Dr. Daniel Fernando García Martínez.

Francisco J. Suárez is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Oviedo. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oviedo in 1990 and 1998 respectively. He has been working in the following research lines: Architectures and Algorithms for Signal and Image Processing (1991-1997), Analysis of Real-Time Systems (1994-2000), Multimedia Systems and Services (2001-2017) and Wireless Sensor Networks and Internet of Things (2018-). He is member of the research group Self-Management of Computer Systems approved by the Government Council in accordance with the regulations of the University of Oviedo. He led the research line in Multimedia Systems and Services within the research group and now leads the research line in Wireless Sensor Networks and Internet of Things. He is member of the Asturias Institute of Industrial Technology (IUTA) since 2006, being a regular reviewer of research projects. He is member of the Spanish chapter of the international organization Information Technology Service Management Forum (itSMF) since 2012 and he has been coordinator of the Asturias chapter from 2017 to 2021. He is an expert member of the Teaching Innovation Committee in the University of Oviedo since 2022, being a regular reviewer of teaching innovation projects. His scientific production has been positively evaluated by the Spanish National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI), as the author has been recognized 4 6-year research terms in 2019.
