Doctor by the Universidad de Oviedo with the thesis Comportamiento tribológico de aceites utilizados en la formulación de fluidos hidráulicos 2002. Supervised by Dr. José Esteban Fernández Rico, Dr. Diego García Cuervo.

Prof. Antolin Hernandez Battez received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cienfuegos (Cuba) in 1996 and worked there for two years before moving to the University of Oviedo (Spain), where he obtained his Ph.D. in 2002. He has been teaching at the Department of Construction and Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Oviedo since 2001 and is one of the founders and principal investigator of the Lubrication and Surface Technology (LuSuTec) research group. His lines of research are in the field of tribology (friction, wear and lubrication), mainly in the characterization of materials and lubricants and in the development of new lubricants and additives (ionic liquids, biolubricants, etc.). He has more than 80 articles published in international journals and more than 60 presentations in international conferences. His research papers have more than 3400 citations and he has an h-index of 32 (Scopus). Prof. Hernandez Battez has supervised 8 Ph.D. theses and has received more than €1.5M in research projects and contracts as principal investigator from government agencies and industrial companies. He has participated in several research projects and contracts with a total budget of more than 2.7M€. He has been awarded four six-year research periods and one six-year transfer period.
