Professor of Physical-Chemistry. Degree, 1980, and PhD, 1984, in Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Oviedo. Postdoc University of Nijmegen/Radboud University (The Netherlands), 1985/87 (Professor Paul T. Beurskens). Leads the SYSTAM Group, Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry and the CSIC Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Institute (CINN), declared Group of Excellence in 2001. Specialist in materials science, structural determination, crystallography, diffraction, and calculations. Rector of the University of Oviedo 2016/21, Vice-Chancellor for Research 2008/12 and Executive Secretary of the R&D commission of the CRUE, president of the CRUE-Sustainability Commission and the Commission for the 2030 Agenda. Member of the Sustainable Development Council. President of the European Crystallographic Association (ECA). Elected Ordinary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) 2014/21, former Vicepresident and current President of the IUCr.
