Resumen

La literatura científica ya ha demostrado los beneficios del amor romántico como factor de protección clave en la prevención de la violencia. Algunas publicaciones recientes afirman que el amor romántico es una poderosa causa de la violencia de género siguiendo dos pasos. En primer lugar, atribuyen al amor romántico una lista de causas de la violencia denominándolas "los mitos del amor romántico", entre las que se incluyen la falta de libertad y la normalización de la coacción. Sin embargo, la investigación aún no ha explorado en profundidad si lo que denominan "mitos del amor romántico" son características consustanciales al amor romántico o no. Para ello, este estudio realiza una revisión bibliográfica histórica de artículos científicos, libros y obras literarias y musicales de diversas culturas y épocas. Los resultados muestran que esos mitos no son características del amor romántico; por el contrario, la literatura revisada muestra seis características principales del amor romántico que demuestran que es lo contrario de esos mitos, ya que ha liberado a las mujeres de la sumisión feudal y de otras sumisiones a lo largo de la historia.
