Abstract

This article describes the alternatives studied to solve the transport and storage problems of an industrial laundry from a hospital. Currently dirty clothes arrive from the hospital to the facilities of this laundry by means of a pneumatic system. Clothes, without classifying and within bags, are piled up in the ground, under the exit of the pneumatic pipe. This system generates, in addition to possible health problems, the requirement to carrying by some way all that volume of clothes to the selection zone, previous to the washing. The problems are bigger at no workable days, as Sunday, when bags are pile up until next Monday. At the moment the transport is made loading manually bags in small carts and carrying them to be unloaded in the selection zone. The purpose is to find a solution to manage those bags automatically. In addition, storage area must be maximized because space shortage. Alternatives were analyzed from different points of view as investment, available suppliers or maintenance costs, etc.
