Resumo

Objectives: investigate whether myths and false beliefs about breastfeeding in mothers are related to its abandonment from the perspective of nursing professionals.Methodology:  Review of the scientific literature and qualitative phenomenological study, with content analysis, based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with key informants: nurses, midwives, residents and health care assistants at Central University Hospital of Asturias. Conclusions: There is a need for proper education and perinatal support for the benefits and disadvantages of breastfeeding by health professionals, as well as continued education in lactation.
