Resum

The Spanish exile in Buenos Aires during the 1930s and 1940s was a crucial period in the history of Spanish theater. Numerous companies and artists established themselves in the city, and their contributions to the Argentine theatrical landscape left an indelible mark. In this article, we will analyze some of the most prominent theatrical events and companies of this era, focusing on the seasons from 1937 to 1940. Through research of newspaper sources, it is possible to uncover the events that marked the early years of performances on Argentine stages, as well as the connections forged between professionals who collaborated on joint projects. This research will also shed light on the conflicts that emerged in this context and how they led to the formation of new theater companies, with a specific focus on the Cortesina sisters. This approach will provide a platform to highlight names that may not be widely recognized and, at the same time, offer a more comprehensive understanding of theatrical exile in Argentina.
