Resum
Socioeconomic study of the Menéndez Pola family during the last decades of the 18th century. Settled in the town of Luanco, its members were linked to the timber traffic between Asturias and the shipyards of El Ferrol, giving rise to conflicts with the councils. For this reason, the Junta General of the Principality assumed the timber seat held by the aforementioned lineage, one of the most important of the council of Gozón, of which they were perpetual aldermen. The economic profile of this family —genealogical data is offered— is analyzes, as well as its strategies for social promotion and its assets and important economic patrimony. For this, different primary sources are used, among them the will of José Antonio Menéndez Pola and, in particular, the extensive inventory carried out at his death in 1792.
