Zusammenfassung

A bibliographic review was carried out to describe the behavior of dengue in relation to: history of the disease, definition, synonymy, clinical forms, etiology, epidemiology, classification, diagnosis and treatment. A total of 31 bibliographic references were consulted from Scielo, PubMed and EBSCO databases. The literature consulted shows that dengue is still a health problem worldwide; the surveillance, control and actions of researches in Cuba have allowed the country to remain free of dengue as an endemic disease, although epidemics and transmissions have been reported uninterruptedly. In Ciego de Ávila the last outbreak occurred since the statistical week No. 33 corresponding to the month of August 2015 to date. Without medical treatment, it can lead to death. The five basic principles of the World Health Organization and compliance with Cuban guidelines for controlling the mosquito vector must be taken to deal with it.
