Resum

In this report we present the results of the study of the gem with cabochon carving, set in metal base, of the cover of the Holy Ark of the cathedral of Oviedo. The objective of the study was to certify that the gem was rock crystal (see figure 1). Being a colorless gem with a cabochon cut, the variety of instruments that can be used for identification is reduced, which is why the work methodology and instruments used in the identification have been: – Measurement of the refractive index with a Rayner refractometer using the distant vision method. – Observation of the internal characteristics of the gem with a gemological 10x Magnifying Glass Loupe of 18 mm.
