Abstract
Objective: To describe the most frequent complications of implant overdenture treatment. Material and Methods: A bibliographical review of the scientific publications and books of the last 10 years, on the subject, was conducted. Results: lmplant-supported overdentures required mostly maintenance during the first year. The most frequent complications in relation to the treatment with implant-supported overdentures are: clip de-activation (7-60%), soft tissue ulcers (45%), relining of the overdenture (9.6-40.0 %) and relining of the opposing full denture (23-50%). Conclusion: The correct case diagnosis, the use of a semi-adjustable articulator, proper indication / placement of the required implants, the selection of the appropriate attachment, precise adjustments of denture base, together with a passive fit and correct occlusion scheme are the keys to minimize the complications related to the implant-supported overdentures.
