La relevancia de la mediación en la sociedaduna mirada a las barreras para su implantación en nuestro país

Abstract

Mediation has become one of the most effective methods of conflict resolution due to, among other reasons, the freedom of action and self-determination conferred to the parties and its capacity to promote the learning of peaceful and dialogic strategies in conflict management. However, despite its benefits, it has little impact on the social level in our country. We propose four focuses from which to analyze and respond to this problem: socialization in the culture of litigation, the unification of criteria regarding the conceptualization and development of mediation, the training of mediators, and institutional involvement. For this involvement, we propose increasing promotion and social awareness, the creation of public mediation centers, and greater integration of mediation in the Judicial System. We conclude by claiming that it is essential that government institutions not only recognize and support mediation but also strengthen it with physical, social, and, above all, economic resources.
