Resumen

Introduction: the correct selection of the alloys in the orthodontic arches for each stage influences the treatment times, patient comfort, and obtaining predictable results without adverse effects. Gummetal® is an alloy formed by Titanium, Niobium, Tantalum, and Zirconium with multiple possibilities at different stages of treatment. This article aims to determine the composition and properties, as well as to show its clinical management in the case of orthodontics. Material and method: scanning electron microscopy analyzed the surface of Gummetal® in its initial state, after undergoing plastic deformation and after bending it back to the initial form. Its composition was determined using the CAMEBAX SX-100 Electronic Microwave. Results: Gummetal® is an effective alloy at different stages of orthodontic treatment. It has a very homogeneous composition throughout the alloy and can be an alternative to other archwires. Also, it can be used in patients allergic to nickel. Discussion: given the formability and resistance of Gummetal, this alloy is more suitable than others to carry out specific treatments
