Abstract

The design of an appropriate test strategy to characterise the fatigue behaviour of components is essential in order to optimise material, time, budget and also to achieve a satisfactory and statistically reliable representation of the response. The ProFatigue software is a practical, user-friendly S-N-P field evaluation tool that alleviates the often intricate task of experimental design and probabilistic analysis. ProFatigue, based on the Weibull regression model proposed by Castillo-Canteli, satisfies demanding physical and statistical requirements in its derivation. Its strength lies in the compatibility condition and the percentile-based normalisation of results, which allows optimisation of the testing strategy. The advantages of its use also extend to the joint evaluation of the LCF and HCF regimes, damage accumulation and fatigue limit definition. This work didactically exposes practical cases of evaluation on different materials using ProFatigue, revealing its way of use in the analysis continuously fed back from the previously recorded results, promoting an adequate selection of the load level in each test. The aim of this work is to show its performance to promote its use autonomously and effectively.
