Abstract

: During the five-year period 2016-2020 there have been 196 marine mammals recorded on the Asturian coasts, of which virtually all of them have been stranded. Of these, 10 were Balaenoptera spp., 150 odontocetes, two unidentified cetaceans and 28 grey seals Halichoerus grypus. The most abundant cetaceans were Delphinus delphis (34.7%), followed by Stenella coeruleoalba (13.7%), Tursiops truncatus (9%) and Phocoena phocoena (4.7%). It is worth noting the presence of unusual species on the Iberian coasts, such as a massive stranding of 12 specimens of Globicephala macrorhynchus, two specimens of Stenella clymene, a calf of Mesoplodon bidens and a specimen of Lagenorhynchus albirostris. The number of records did varied annually between 30 and 50
