Abstract

The fishing tourism is called to play an important role in the future of fishing. It also appears as an opportunity for the sun and beach destinations to complement its offer. However, although there has been significant progress in recent years, there is still some resistance to the normal implementation of this activity. Many of the problems arise from restrictive and contradictory legislation. That could explain why the development of fishing tourism in Spain is scarce and irregular when it's compared to other Mediterranean countries. In our country, only a few regions have recently made progress in this matter, whereas in other coastal regions legislation or experience in this area are almost nonexistent. In this study we aimed to analyze some of these experiences, as well as legislation that has emerged in recent years. The aim is to analyze the main difficulties impeding the final takeoff of an activity destined to play a key role in future social, economic and environmental sustainability of fisheries.
