Abstract

In the present work, the results of a bat sampling carried out at the Bay of Cádiz Natural Reserve (Cádiz, Spain) are presented. Bat surveys were performed in a total of 15 sampling points distributed along the bay of Cádiz, with the aim to record and idenify bat species occurring at the study site. At least four species belonging to four genera were detected (Pipistrellus spp., Eptesicus spp., Miniopterus spp. and Nyctalus spp.). The landscape structure of the Bay of Cádiz Natural Reserve (mostly composed by beaches and coastal plains) is suggested to be the main environmental factor limiing both the diversity and acivity levels of bats. Some management and conservaion consideraions regarding the role of bats as biocontrol agents against local pests are included
