Resumen

This article describes the design of a water tunnel type infrastructure that has been built and implemented at the Polytechnic School of Mieres (EPM, University of Oviedo). The tunnel has been conceived as an equipment that allows testing of different prototypes of hydrokinetic turbines. It includes a hydraulic system calculated for, by means of a recirculation between two tanks, to achieve high water velocities in a channel, and a control system (hardware and software) that allows to adjust different hydraulic parameters (speed and height of the water sheet) and perform the operation control of the microturbine to be tested. By using the water tunnel different turbine designs and control strategies can be characterized.
