Résumé

Analyzing the emotional climate of public administration staff is crucial for the optimization of their performance, especially in those contexts where it is commonly negative, as is the case of penitentiary institutions. This study aimed at establishing the differences in the emotional climate and the characteristics of burnout in prison officers, according to job category and years of seniority, as well as to find out the role of the emotional climate in the development of burnout, depending on job position and work experience. The sample consisted of 140 male and female prison workers in Andalusia, age ranged between 18 and 60 years, classified into three job typologies: “interior-surveillance”, “treatment” and “administration”. The results indicate differences in the emotional climate and the components of burnout, as well as that the emotional climate plays a role in the development of this syndrome, according to the variables analyzed.
