Resumen

5G wireless will play a key role in the factories of the future. This chapter provides an overview of 5G technology, and its main features and modes of operation with focus on Smart Production environments. The chapter also discusses the benefits of using 5G as an alternative to Wi-Fi and gives a number of recommendations to SMEs on how to operate 5G from the network, end device, and application points of view. The chapter is concluded with an example of a successful industrial application, exploiting the full potential of 5G: the Edge Cloud-based reliable operation of autonomous mobile robots.
