Abstract

Engineering subjects are characterized by a practical part in which the student physically interacts withelements of its environment with the aim of reproducing some phenomenon (the failure of a material, the design and assembly of an electrical circuit, etc.) related to its field of study. However, there arealso subjects which curricular contents have a high percentage of normative features, as in the caseof those involving standards developed by different organizations and institutions that students musthandle in order to successfully develop their future professional projects. The usual methodology inthis last type of subjects is usually based on traditional techniques focused on the presentation of ba-sic concepts during the theory classes and their subsequent application in individual exercises in thepractical ones. This causes a lack of motivation and interest in the subject by the students. In order toavoid these problems, gamification of the normative contents (dimensioning, views, sections, etc.) ofthe subject Graphic Expression in the Chemical Engineering degree of the University of Oviedo hasbeen carried out through the development of a game board by the students. The results show that it hasbeen possible to increase the motivation of the students, their inter and intrapersonal skills, as well asthe effective inclusion of collaborative work as the centre of the development of the subject.
