Resum

One of the advantages of the Autonomous Regions in Spain is the ease with which comparisons can be made between different regions. Spatial planning is one of the areas in which this exercise is mostrevealing. Approximately three decades have passed since the enactment of the first laws to the application of the determinations of the instruments. During this period, the Cantabrian coast has undergone a series of landscape transformations, sometimesimperceptible on a day-to-day basis, but which, when analysed in a synthetic way, allow us to approach a brief evaluation of the importance that the instruments of Spatial Planning have had inthe contemporary territorial configuration. In the same way, it reveals some aspects relating to the socio-economic structure, while at the same time highlighting how society inhabits and manages theterritory.Under this approach and based on the use of comparative aerial images at different times, a brief review is made of some of the recent transformations that the landscape of the Cantabrian coast hasundergone with the aim of extracting a diagnosis that contributes to the improvement of the theoretical postulates on which the instruments are defined.
