Resumen
This research analyses the type, theme, source of dissemination and debunking of local fake news, specifically it catego-rizes, registered in the province of Ali-cante from February to November 2020. A mixed methodology is proposed that combines the detection and classification of local hoaxes and their quantitative in-terpretation with their qualitative analysis. Most hoaxes were disseminated through messaging app and social networks and an official source. Contrary to the idea that local hoaxes are unsubstantiated rumours, the conclusions point to their consisten-cy to extrapolate to the local sphere oth-er hoaxes, sometimes even supplanting a reliable source. Debunking are usually competent when occurring early, although often hoaxes were debunked through different channels. However, a methodological limitation inherent in this study is the identification of hoaxes by denials: we do not know how many hoaxes remain undeniably which high-lights the importance of the implementation of local fact checking systems
