Abstract

On our campus in Gijón, a long way has gone by the hand of the Erasmus agreements, many of our students go abroad thanks to these grants, but it was not easy to see on our campus foreign students who came here for a similar experience. However, this situation is changing and this article describes an exchange experience with students from the University of Strathclyde, who come to our campus year after year to get involved in a prototype development project. They are students who come in a group of four, who do not speak our language, and who, for four months, are going to interact with professors, Spanish students and laboratory technicians, who help them in the design and manufacture of a prototype mechanism or machine.The students work using solid modeling software, from these models they develop the manufacturing plans, and even some pieces are obtained directly from the CAD files by 3D printing. Moreover those technician elemets, they must be adjusted to a budget and manufacturing means, and they have to spend time together with the local staff. The experience of dealing with this type of project is undoubtedly very enriching for all the agents involved, Erasmus and local students, professors and laboratory technicians.
