Abstract

This study focuses on the student’s perception of Project-based learning, where this contributes to the grades of several subjects of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Mechatronic Engineering of the University of Oviedo. Likewise it was important to be able to analyze the improvement of teamwork skills about the groups proposed to solve various problems. The challenge proposed deals with several topics: developing a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller for DC Motor Control using identification process; using Matlab tofinally determine the desired controller; programming it in a PC-based model of the DC Motor; and implementing the actual control in a PCB including a PIC microcontroller. In addition, groups of students with different academic background (mechanical, electronic and mechatronics engineering) and different nationalities (Spaniards, Colombians, Hondurans, etc.) were created. Participation and integration of students in project-based learning was proven to substantially improve team work, as well as extra-curricular knowledge that is not covered in the programmatic content of each subject.
