Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine El Quijote en la calle, a theatrical performance that has been staged for the last twenty years in the streets of Argamasilla de Alba (Ciudad Real). After contextualising this performance in the history of the theatrical reception of Don Quixote, it presents an analysis of the recreation, focusing on its main characte-ristics and the mechanisms of adaptation of the novel. In this way, the success of the assimilation of Cervantes' text as a popular spectacle in a town with an outstanding quixotic tradition is demonstrated.
