Abstract

Simulated pore networks at the scale of rock matrix have been developed using Pore-Cor software, from a series of outcrop samples from near Aguilar de Campo (Palencia). These outcrops are equivalent to the potential reservoir and seal intervals found in the geological structure of Hontomín (Burgos). Advanced analysis of the pore network has been performed by processing the data acquired by mercury intrusion porosimetry, in order to obtain 3D void network models and other pore-related parameters (permeability, connectivity, porosity, tortuosity, trapped porosity, etc.) That could lead to a predictive tool for studying the diffusion processes within rock samples, since Pore-Cor can generate void structures whose properties are comparable to those obtained from experimental mercury intrusion porosimetry of real porous rocks. This study provides a better understanding of the liquid flow behaviour in both the reservoir interval, represented by Lower Jurassic carbonate formations, and the overlying seal made by the shales, marlstones and limestones of the Lower-Middle Jurassic (Lias and Dogger).
