Resum

Despite the fact that she lived almost a thousand years ago, the life and works of Trotula de Ruggero remains a mystery to many historians. The paucity of reliable sources and the misrepresentation of her persona throughout history place us in a disconcerting position as we approach the biography of this Salernitani doctor. This state of affairs has fueled various myths and legends that have even cast doubts on her name, her gender 62 or her work. Thus, in this paper we shall examine the historical and literary (re)creation of Trotula de Ruggiero that Italian novelists Paola Presciuttini and Dorotea Memoli Apicella conduct, focusing on the divergences and convergences that can be established between the storylines of both works.
