Abstract

T: This study presents the proposals of students of the “Master de Ingeniería de Caminos de la Universidad de Oviedo” for the industrial brownfields located in the fluvial axis of the Nalón as it flows through Langreo. The main focuses of the work have been the environmental remediation of the contaminated soils through phytoremediation and soil washing techniques, the recovery of added value from some of the existing waste, the restoration of the riverbank area, and finally a reordering of the urban planning in order to improve connectivity, and to provide an opportunity for revitalization of the entire area. For each one of the four sites studied (Nitrastur, Felguera Melt, Talleres del Conde and Parque de Carbones) a specific proposal is described. The integral regeneration of the area would include the creation of a large greenfield and it would combine industrial heritage and technological development with a substantial improvement in the quality of life of the municipality
