Consumo excesivo de alcohol y rendimiento cognitivo en estudiantes de secundiaria de la provincia de Alicante

Resumen

La evidencia empírica ha mostrado las repercusiones negativas del consumo abusivo de alcohol sobre algunas funciones cognitivas y el rendimiento académico. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido analizar en qué medida el consumo abusivo de alcohol afecta a determinadas habilidades cognitivas, así como al rendimiento académico de estudiantes de secundaria en función de su género. Participaron un total de 227 adolescentes, de entre 14 y 18 años. Se administraron varios cuestionarios para la evaluación del perfil adictivo de los sujetos, habilidades cognitivas y rendimiento académico. Los consumidores de riesgo mostraron un patrón de consumo de alcohol más grave. No se hallaron diferencias significativas en cuanto a las habilidades cognitivas, si bien los consumidores abusivos mostraron un peor rendimiento académico que los de bajo riesgo. No se encontraron diferencias en función del género para ninguna de las variables. Resultan necesarios futuros estudios longitudinales que profundicen en las conclusiones presentadas en este trabajo.
