Abstract

The now disappeared National Institute of Industry, flagship of the industrial policy of the Franco regime, was behind the implantation in Avilés of two heavyweights of the metallurgical industrial heritage, Ensidesa and Endasa. This work deals with the national Aluminium Company, Endasa: from its early establishment in the Avilés estuary in 1947, to the modern productive complex which, constructed in the 1950s, counted on the invaluable help of the engineer Carlos Fernández Casado. A living heritage which continues with its industrial use, the best guarantee of its preservation, it is also a threatened heritage, with a still uncertain future, which has suffered losses, as we will highlight, which have affected both the manufacturing facilities and the company township.
