There are many parameters involved in open pit operations which determine their economic viability. Therefore, to have a greater knowledge of these parameters, it is necessary to develop management and operation mining projects. In most cases, open pit exploitation methods need a greater number of vehicles to perform the operations than underground mines, so one of the most influential parameters on the mine profitability is the number of fleet vehicles. The most important vehicles of mining fleet are dump trucks and loaders. In this article mining fleet vehicles of an important number or iron ore open pits of some of the major worldwide operators are analyzed. A new mining vehicle classification, based on the most relevant feature of each equipment, was made with the data collected during the analysis phase. In addition, a general open pit database was created, from which the relations between the mining fleet and annual productions were searched.
