Resumen
In June 2010, between 7th and 17th, an episode of heavy rainfall (over 450 mm of accumulated rainfall) took place in Asturias (N Spain). Several landslides were reported in the regional media related to this episode. This paper presents an example of using press archives as a record of landslides, whose spatial and temporal triggering can be characterized by comparison with precipitation records. ArcGIS 9.2. has been used to manage landslides and precipitation data, from 75 weather stations of the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), which has allowed the identification of the existence of two distinct precipitation events, from 7th to June 13th and from 14th to 17th June, with maximum 24h precipitation values of 190 mm on 9th and 123 mm on the 15th, respectively. The first landslide occurred after three days of rain, and 66% of landslides took place after values of accumulated rainfall greater or equal to 200 mm.
