Resumen

Since May 2015 the University of Oviedo has a Geological Garden consisting of a journey on the geological time scale. Large samples of representative rocks of the most outstanding geological periods in the Cantabrian Mountains are showed. The path, painted on the floor adjacent to the garden of the Faculty of Geology, was segmented each metre. Each of these sections represents 150 and 3 million years corresponding to Precambrian and Phanerozoic ages, respectively. Both, samples and limits of chronostratigraphic units are marked with plates on which basic information on the nature, age and origin of rocks is detailed. The presence of a QR code connected with the Geology Museum website allow to enlarge this information. The initiative has helped to take the Geology outside of the classroom. It has been well received by citizens who come to the Garden curiously.
