Resumen

It is presented the methodology followed to develop a database for geological and geotechnical data for the urban environment of Gijon, and the lines of research that are being conductedusing the stored information. It has been necessary to undertake a previous phase of datacollection, mostly extracted from site investigations related to geotechnical studies for residential constructionand civil engineering. Subsequently, after a process of georeferencing, they have been integrated into a relational database implemented in a Geographic Information System, complemented by other thematic layers. Among other data, currently it includes more than a thousand site explorations, mainly bore-holes, approximately 1,200 field tests, and around 1,500 geotechnical parameters. The repository created, of simple maintenance and upgradeable, demonstrates to constitute an efficient tool for the conservation and management of field data. It is allowing improvingthe state of knowledge about the peculiarities of the urban subsoil locally, approached from different points of view: geological setting, geotechnical characterization and evaluation of the hydrogeological context.
