Resum

In a sample of 631 interviews, we examine the relation between the clients’ evaluation of the help they have received, their satisfaction level at the end of each session and the improvements they report at the beginning of the next session. In a sub-sample of 327 sessions, we analyze the predictive value of the therapeutic alliance and of the evaluation of the therapist’s style during the interview in addition to that. Two linear regression analyses demonstrate that only 14.8% of the variance of the therapeutic changes in between sessions in the first study and 21.2% of the variance in the second study can be explained with the information that the clients provide on the quality of the work during the sessions. We argue that these results show the importance of the clients’ work outside the consultation room and the necessity of reconsidering the role of the therapists.
