Abstract

In NW Asturias, Spain, particularly in the Trevias-Luina area, there are abundant Mn mineralizations, worked in ancient times, but abandoned at present. They are small veins or irregular pockets related to the Palaeozoic terrain. In most cases they are supergene deposits related to zones with great secondary permeability. Several of these mineralizations appear in zones where volcanic minerals are altered and show concentration by weathering. The deposits studied here are aligned in two bands from Soto de Trevias to Cadavedo (Villanueva and Cadavedo mineralizations) and from Brieves to Concha de Artedo (Ore, Munas and Luina mineralizations). The main constituents are pyrolusite and manganite. All these mineralizations are very similar in morphological and geological characteristics and in genetic conditions.-P.Br.
