Resumen
In this study body dysmorphic disorder throughout history and international diagnostic classifications (DSM and ICD) is developed a contextualization of gender dysphoria and performs. Body dysmorphic disorder or dysmorphobia is defined as a excessive worry about a minimal or imaginary defect in the physical appearance of a person, which causes a deterioration in the quality of life. Gender dysphoria refers the incongruity between the gender assigned at birth and the gender felt or expressed as own. Both people with a body dysmorphic disorder and gender dysphoria often make demands for medical surgical interventions. The dilemma arises when both entities coexist. While these interventions give good results in people with gender dysphoria, they would be clearly contraindicated in body dysmorphic disorder. On this last case, the operations seem to increase the previous discomfort.
