Resumo

Authors such as Severo Sarduy, Lezama Lima, or Parkinson Zamora analyse the Neobaroque as a specific Latin American movement. Nonetheless, scholars since D’Ors to Calabrese and Ndalianis consider the Neobaroque as a cultural superstructure that includes all the contemporary artistic expressions. Thus, Neobaroque may be regarded as a new theoretical frame, a product from the hybridism born in the complex, interconnected cultures of the 20th century. The aim of this paper is contextualise the Latin American Neobaroque in its global definitions, analysing divergences and points in common. To do so, this paper will provide examples from Silvina Ocampo’s short stories (a writer systematically excluded from the studies on Latin American Neobaroque) which, using Neobaroque narrative strategies, creates discourses about sexual repression, physical and behavioural discipline, and otherness
