Representaciones polifónicas de la subjetividad en la lengua

Abstract

We off er an overview of the potential applications of the theory of polyphony to the linguistic description of the diff erent language units, by which we understand not only the lexical ones but also morphemes and syntactic structures. Polyphony is a kind of “plural subjectivity” in as much as it consists of the subjective representations of an alterity that is constructed from the “I” of the speaker and that range from the unfolding of that “I” to the representation of characters that converse with the speaker. In this way, diff erent viewpoints are confronted, confi rmed and reinforced, so that strategies are created to shape up the fabric of the enunciation. Such plural subjectivity is not exclusive to the enunciation, but it also constitutes the very essence of language and of its diff erent units, whose meaning is articulated on the basis of a plurality of viewpoint.
