Abstract

Due to the need to deepen the relationship between man and nature through artistic creation, I started a doctoral research to analyse the artist Wolf Vostell (one of the authors of the twentieth century who most used nature and its elements in his multimedia work) and his art. It should be clear that existed a scientific lack in this field and this lack was one of the fundamental parts to understand the artist. For example, it is impossible to comprehend the communication of Wolf Vostell in his art without different aspects of nature. Vostell stand by disadvantaged people, by the helpless, by those people treated for humanity unfairly. This is one of the most important idea in his work where the animals, the plant world and the elements that make up the natural landscape, will be present always in his iconography as a wake-up call to their protection. The artist has many different ways to use the animals (presently in his happenings, environments, painting and sculpture), the plant world (which he uses to interact with him), the four elements: water, earth, air and fire (he used them to intervene in the landscape in all kinds of actions) and the mineral world (used, mainly, at the end of his life).
